Bi men, self-harm and depression
Yet another research study has linked bisexuality in men to higher rates of depression and self-harm.
The report in the Journal of Public Health looked at 5,799 men’s experiences in the UK, in the 2011 Stonewall Gay & Bisexual Men’s Health Survey.
Research subjects were all attracted to men – most were only attracted to men but around one in five were also attracted to women, over 1000 of the participants.
“Mental health inequalities among gay and bisexual men in England, Scotland andWales: a large community-based cross-sectional survey” also notes:
The finding that men who are attracted to women as well as men are at greater risk of poor mental health than are men attracted only to men reflect the same inequality found among sexual minority women, and reinforce the need for bisexual visibility in LGBT services.
