BiCon North of the Border
BiCon Returns to Scotland
BiCon 2006 will be held at Glasgow Caledonian University, Glasgow on 13th - 17th July (Glasgow Fair
weekend). This will be the first time the event has been hosted in Glasgow, and the first time it has been held north of the border since 1999 (Edinburgh).
BiCon Communications Manager, Alison Eales, said: “We are very excited to be hosting BiCon this year. We hope to run a really fun event which will be as accessible to as many people as possible. We’re also aiming to improve bi visibility in Scotland, so this year’s event will have a Scottish theme.”
The BiCon 2006 website can be found at www.bicon2006.org.uk, and is regularly updated by all team members. As well as an ever-expanding FAQ, BiCon stories and a team diary, there is a list of proposed and requested workshops. Comprehensive pre-weekend information will be published on the site in due course, as well as being sent out to attendees.
Workshop ideas currently include sessions on BDSM and intersexuality, and a multi-faith worship session, along with chances for attendees to experiment with nipple tassels, drag, juggling and music.
For evening entertainments, the team hope to host a Rocky Horror Picture Show audience participation event and a contemporary ceilidh, as well as the usual DIY Disco, karaoke and quizzes. Chill-out space will also be provided.
Bookings can be made by post (the registration form is downloadable from the website) or online (from the BiCon home page, go to the ‘Registrations’ folder on the left-hand menu). At the time of writing, the team has received around 70 registrations, with the majority being received online. The team are currently looking for volunteers, both for general duties and more specific roles (first aid, counseling, signing etc.). There is a space on the booking form to indicate that you wish to volunteer.
Alternatively, any enquiries can be sent to team@bicon2006.org.uk and will be forwarded to the appropriate team member.
