The Critical reader published in
1999, provides a series of
reprinted academic essays in one
collection.
As a starting point, the critical reader provides a useful summary of some of the key academic ideas concerning Bisexuality within the 20th century, and is a useful starting reference for any student.
The collection spans a number of academic
disciplines such as pyschology, sociology, sexology and
cultural theory and includes classic text by, Havelock Ellis,
Freud, Kinsey, Klein and Cixious.
In addition to these text, are a some texts based
upon the identity politics of the 80's and 90's and a liberal
inclusion of the work of some of the key writers of the UK's
Bi Academic Intervention group of the mid 1990's.
One of the most interesting aspects of the book is the fluid and changing definition of bisexuality that is uncovered by the chronological layout of the book.
