Cecil B Demented
Dir: John Waters
Starring: Melanie Griffith, Stephen Dorff
John Waters latest film sees a group of
polymorphously perverted art film terrorists called
the procket holes lead by Cecil ( Stephen Dorff )
Kidnap, has-been screen idol Honey Whitlock (
Melanie Griffith ) while in Baltimore to attend the
premier of her new film. The group of celluloid
guerrilla's are on a mission to fight the corruption
of the west coast studio system big budget system
by producing their own "realcinema" of their
antics and actions, using Honey as the lead
character and co-incidently the voice of their
political manifesto.
Although Waters latest film doesn't have
the crudeness of Pink Flamingo's or the surreal
musical qualities of bebop patishe of Hairspray, it
is still entertaining. The art movie terrorist joke,
works well for a given time, especially that one of
Waters regulars is Patty Hearst famous heiress
kidnapped by a left wing terrorist group in the
70's, although at times it does wear thin.
